2025
This year was defined by a new job, deep dives into AI, and a return to in-person community events.
Started a new job
In April, I started working for FareHarbor (part of Booking Holdings).
Conferences and Meetups
I attended several inspiring events this year, ranging from massive open-source gatherings to smaller local meetups:
- FOSDEM - February
- Creative Coding Amsterdam: May Madness @Mollie - May
- Google Developer Groups: Meet NotebookLM - June
- Py.Amsterdam Meetup at Fareharbor - June
- AI House: Learn how to get the most out of AI coding assistants with OpenAI - October
- AI House: Learn how to get the most out of AI coding assistants with Google - December
AI
2025 was the year I embraced AI in my development workflow.
In May, I started experimenting with blog automation, using LLMs to parse links and generate descriptions for my monthly posts.
By the end of the year, I was diving into Antigravity, a new AI-powered IDE from Google, which I explored just before the December AI House event.
I participated in the 10xdevs course, where I gained a better grasp of how to use AI in my development workflow.
Tools & Workflow
I made some changes to my tools:
- terminal: switched to Ghostty after years with iTerm2.
- window management: adopted Alt-Tab and Rectangle.
- process management: started using mprocs to manage multiple processes in a single terminal.
- file management: discovered superfile (TUI file manager) and copyparty (portable file server), but I am not actively using them, treating them more as interesting tools.
Inspiration
- book: The Phoenix Project - a "thriller" about DevOps that changed my perspective on IT operations.
- documentary: Python: The Documentary - a nostalgic look at the origins of the language I use daily.
- video series: Graham Weaver's "Last Lecture" series, especially "How to Live an Asymmetric Life".
Writing
As always, I've kept up with my monthly summaries, where I compile a few sentences about each month, along with any interesting articles, tools, and other materials I've come across. Each month, I also add a personal touch with a photo I've taken.
Summary
2025 was a year of "ups and downs," but it was mostly "ups" in terms of work, learning, and community engagement.
