June 2026
Time for another monthly post sharing some of the IT discoveries that crossed my path lately. Below you'll find a mix of articles, links, and resources, some of which tie into my current activities and areas of interest.
Some thoughts
chapp.io
My colleague and former manager Thomas Biesaart finally shipped his personal site at chapp.io It's actually pretty good, worth checking out!
cmux
Gave cmux a spin. It's a Ghostty-based terminal designed for AI coding agents. Looks sleek enough to make you feel like a hackerman, but it doesn't fit my workflow. Sticking to plain Ghostty + tmux for now.
ponytail
AI agents still love generating 50 lines of boilerplate for a one-line fix. It's exhausting. Testing ponytail — "a tool that makes your AI think like the laziest senior dev in the room". The README analogy is spot on:
You know him. Long ponytail. Oval glasses. Has been at the company longer than the version control. You show him fifty lines; he looks at them, says nothing, and replaces them with one.
Ponytail puts him inside your AI agent.
Kelsey Hightower & Mitchell Hashimoto in The Pragmatic Engineer
The algorithm pushed Kelsey Hightower's podcast at me, and then a real human recommended it face-to-face. I took the hint. It’s a genuinely inspiring story about career growth from the Kubernetes legend himself. Highly recommended.
(Also, the episode with Mitchell Hashimoto is mandatory viewing if you care about Terraform or Ghostty.)

Daring Fireball: What Is a Dickover?
AI generated summary
John Gruber's article defines 'dickover' as a term for intrusive modal panels on websites and apps that frustrate users with unnecessary interactions, such as cookie permissions or newsletter sign-ups. He argues these are pervasive and disruptive to user experience, distinguishing them from less intrusive 'dickbars'.

Tame your pesky little scripts : Juha-Matti Santala
If you’re anything like me, you build a lot of small things to help your day-to-day. Shell scripts, aliases, custom functions and other tiny things can become unwieldy to manage. I’ll share a few things that have helped me take back control in a comfortable way.

npm left-pad incident - Wikipedia
AI generated summary
The npm left-pad incident in 2016 involved the removal of the 'left-pad' package by its creator, Azer Koçulu, after a dispute with Kik Messenger. Django Tasks: Exploring the Built-in Tasks Framework - Real Python
Before Django Tasks, you’d reach for Celery, RQ, or Django Q, each with its own API, broker setup, and learning curve. The new framework standardizes the workflow. You define a task with a decorator, enqueue it, and check on it later, all through django.tasks. That single entry point is what’s new, not a full Celery replacement. For production, you still install a third-party backend such as django-tasks-db and run a separate worker.
